5 things to do in Romania this summer

It is known that Romania, due to its various landform, is a truly special country – a place which makes you want to know its mystery and enter this truly magical world.

If you are about to plan your summer vacation, but you have not yet thought about Romania as a destination, we invite you to read the top 5 experiences you can try in our country. And, why not, we also challenge you to reflect on this decision and read more about Romania itself!

Did you know that the Danube Delta, which is located in Romania, is the second delta in size from Europe?

The Danube Delta is located in the southeast of the country and occupies about 2540 km2 of territory. During a trip in the Delta you have the opportunity to observe special bird species ? such as cormorants, stingrays, wood pigeons, diving ducks, red ducks along with over 1800 species of plants, trees, including insects, mammals, etc.

This is a unique moment that you can make the most of, because the Delta is well known as a true oasis of relaxation in nature. You can reconnect with yourself by having a hike or taking a boat along the canals  and by spending time in areas increasingly sought after by tourists, in the middle of nature. Also, if you like fishing, now it is the best time to try this hobby!

Visit big cities like Bucharest, Cluj, Oradea, Iasi and their surroundings!

You can take a tour of the largest cities in Romania and you can travel directly by plane in the country, where you will interact with different cultures and you will have the opportunity to discover parts of our history as a nation.

You also have the opportunity to visit museums, to take guided tours of the cities, to try traditional food and to behold the authentic landscapes that surround you.

For example, in Bucharest you can visit the Palace of Parliament, the second largest administrative building in the world. And the Village Museum ?️, an open-air museum that contains original transferred houses, churches and wells, that illustrate the life of the former Romanian peasant. Or you can even experience the nightlife in the Old Center!

Another tourist attraction that should not be missed is the Turda Salt Mine in Cluj, the most spectacular underground in the world, shaped by people, where you can breathe … health. The benefits of visiting the salt mine are numerous, from avoiding colds and flu to reducing convalescence after certain illnesses. In addition, you will find a mini-amusement park that includes a mini golf course, billiards, sports field, a ferris wheel, etc.

Try the Babele mountain trail for beginners – Caraiman Chalet – Caraiman Cross

At the beginning of the article, I pointed out that in Romania you can find a multitude of landforms, so you can try a series of mountain trails ⛰️ and enjoy the pristine areas of the country. We suggest the route Babele – Cabana Caraiman – Crucea Caraiman, where you can take the cable car to Babele, Busteni, and then continue the hike through the mountains. You will find plenty of picnic areas and stopping points, to take a break and enjoy the scenery.

Of course, there are other easier mountain trails such as Gura Diham – Cabana Diham or Busteni – Cascada Urlătoare.  And regarding the equipment, don’t worry, we have many shops with special sporting goods for such hikes, like Decathlon, Sport Vision and Sportissimo.

Can you think of a zip line with the length of … 1 kilometer?

Exactly. The longest zip line in Romania has 1 kilometer in length and is located in Suceava County, the Pasul Palma zip line. You are exactly in the Bucovina Mountains and you can admire them in all their splendor, ?‍♂️ while experiencing strong sensations at extreme altitudes!

There are certain conditions for riding the zip line: you must be over 7 years old and weigh between 25 and 125 kg.

Go to the Black Sea and enjoy the sunshine

If you like to fully enjoy the sun’s rays ☀️ and swim in the sea waves, you can go to Constanța and choose accommodation right in the city, close to the beach. Also, on the Romanian coastline you can find Mamaia resort with its holiday village and night clubs, Mangalia tourist port, seafront and casino in Constanța.

You can also choose less crowded beaches, including wild ones such as Tuzla Beach or Corbu Beach. These are calm places where you can relax on a sun bed or just a beach towel, depending on your preferences, in an intimate atmosphere.

Party people? You can go to the music festival Neversea ? which is organized this year between July 7 and July 10. It is an immersive music festival that has EDM, electronica, pop, and urban sounds.

To be honest, the Black Sea sunrises are truly authentic, so plan your time in such a way that you can recharge your batteries with that moment. You deserve it!

Instead of a conclusion

I have lived in Romania for 24 years and there are still many places that I have not visited or heard of yet. Planning a vacation in this country is great opportunity to enjoy its hidden gems. And as a final recommendation, you should watch “Flavors of Romania“, a Netflix documentary that will truly surprise you!
