Types of Romanian visas

In Romania there are four types of visas: A, B, C, and D. Their understanding is essential for applying for the right type of visa, especially since types A and B are for transit, and type C is for short stays (tourism, business or visit). However, it is important to note that type C does not allow for long-term stay or working in Romania, which may be confusing for those unfamiliar with the details of the immigration process.

Additionally, the long-term visas (type D) requires additional documents depending on the purpose of stay (e.g. work permit, prior approval for family reunification with a non-EU citizen). Many applicants being unaware of the complexity of this process, and such clarification can be very helpful in preparing the visa application and obtaining the visa.

Another important aspect is the necessary documentation for each type of visa, such as proof of means of support. For example, the recommendation to provide a bank statement in euros or dollars, rather than in local currencies, is extremely overlooked by the applicants, as many may make the mistake of submitting documents in other currencies, which could lead to the rejection of their application.

However, for long-term visas (type D), there are steps to obtain approvals from Romanian authorities before applying for the visa, for example, for family reunification or economic activities. It is important for a clearer understanding of the process to know the steps and timelines you need to respect in order to have a successful application.

Additional details on specific procedures for long-term visas are provided in other articles on our blog for each type of application, therefore it is best to know the purpose of your trip in order to apply for the correct visa and have the proper documentation from the start.
